Sponsor Paul Smyth and compere Tim McGarry at the 2008 Slugger Awards.
The planning for the 2009 Slugger O’Toole Awards has begun in earnest. The 2008 awards were a terrific success, underlining Slugger‘s status as a blog that is positively engaged with the political process.
Where recent press headlines have focussed upon the anti-political nature of some of the more nihilistic high-volume political blogs – and the scurillous nature of much of their content, these awards were about highlighting the good things in Northern Ireland’s fledgeling political process.
I managed to persuade the Guardian’s cartoonist Martin Rowson to attend this year, and he provided the event with a great write-up here.
I could go on, but I won’t. Instead, I’ll direct you to the downloadable impact report (PDF) where you can get a better flavour of the whole thing.
