Last year, I worked on The Slugger O’Toole awards as it’s promoter. You can find a report on last year’s event and download our impact report from here.

The idea of ‘catching politicians being good’ is something I’ve been keen on for a long time, and Slugger was the perfect vehicle for this.

The planning for the 2009 Slugger O’Toole Awards has begun in earnest. The 2008 awards were a terrific success, underlining Slugger‘s status as a blog that is positively engaged with the political process.

Where recent press headlines have focussed upon the anti-political nature of some of the more nihilistic high-volume political blogs – and the scurillous nature of much of their content, these awards were about highlighting the good things in Northern Ireland’s fledgeling political process.

I managed to persuade the Guardian’s cartoonist Martin Rowson to attend this year, and he provided the event with a great write-up here.
